Haute couture
Since quite a few months I wanted to make a shade light in wood. I had some nice Smoked oak and I thought I would be perfect for this project. Of course, light cannot get trough the wood but I got the idea to add a copper sheet inside to reflect light as much as possible.
After that, I had some serious troubles to joint the two edges in a nice way as I did not want to just glue it. My mom was a dressmaker so I had this idea « why don’t I just lace the two edges like a corset ? What do you think ? » So in order to maintain the edges together I made two elements in Oak (one inside, one outside the shade light). And the joint was done !
Obviously to keep the shade light round, you need a frame inside. But I did not want to get the standard metal frame so a built my own in wood. Just this piece of wood worth to take a look inside…
To stand this unusual shade light, I wanted a tripod, a special tripod. Helped with my experience to built the table « Same same but different », I built a shape (mould) to get a nice curve for the legs. There are two originalities with theses legs. First, the « gills » on the top of the legs and the bending curve that gives a shape like an « warhead », you can see in the gotiques cathedrals.
At last, to reinforce and stabilized the tripod, I made a brace with 3 arms. The brace is fully removable and get fasten with vegan leather. The combination of wood and vegan leather works pretty well and ends to give an originality to this floor lamp.
The result of this floor lamp « haute couture » is unique, and I hope you will like as much as I do.
